How to Tell a Hiring Manager
You Have Read the Room

Somewhere in America right now, a woman with years of experience and a reputation built on delivering is sitting in a meeting, watching someone with half her experience say the wrong thing at exactly the wrong moment to exactly the wrong person. She knew it was coming. She felt it before they opened their mouths.
And she has never once been paid for that.
In the third episode of Earned Equity, Angelia Williams Graves introduces Glen and Jeanine. Glen is technically competent and organizationally expensive. He forwards the wrong email, hands out the wrong assignment, and pushes for his team in a way that is accurate and politically catastrophic. Everyone can see it except Glen. Jeanine is the senior manager everyone quietly counts on to tell them the truth, and she was passed over because she was "not quite ready for the visibility of a VP role."
Neither story is about competence. Both are about visibility. Glen's poor judgment is visible because somebody has to clean it up. Jeanine's excellent judgment is invisible because nothing went wrong. The job market rewards visibility, not accuracy, and that is exactly why women like Jeanine keep getting passed over.
Professional judgment is not the absence of bad decisions. Williams Graves names the four specific places it shows up in your work, what it costs an organization when it is missing, and how to demonstrate it on purpose in the rooms where the decisions actually get made.
